In Ontario, the name water bug usually refers to the oriental cockroach. They are dark brown to almost black, 25 to 30 mm long, and prefer cool damp spots like basements, crawlspaces, and around floor drains.
Most come up through sewer lines, floor drains, and cracks in the foundation. They also travel between units in multi family buildings and can enter from garages, garden beds, and under patio stones that sit against the foundation.
