Carpet beetle larvae silently destroy carpets, clothing, upholstery, and stored natural materials. XtermaPro Pest Control eliminates infestations before the damage becomes costly.
Adult carpet beetles are small (2-4mm), oval, and either black or patterned with white, yellow, and orange scales. The adults are harmless it's the larvae that cause damage, feeding on wool, silk, leather, feathers, fur, and animal-based materials. Larvae are hairy, carrot-shaped, and about 5mm long. They prefer undisturbed, dark areas under furniture, inside closets, and behind baseboards.
Carpet beetle infestation signs:
Carpet beetles are a serious threat to wool carpets, antique rugs, natural-fibre upholstery, leather items, taxidermy, and natural-bristle brushes. A well-established infestation can cause extensive damage to irreplaceable items. The larvae can also cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
Effective carpet beetle control starts with a thorough inspection of all affected and at-risk materials. We apply targeted residual insecticide and dust treatments to harborage areas under furniture, in closets, along baseboards, and in affected rooms. Thorough vacuuming to remove eggs, larvae, and shed skins is an essential part of the process.

Carpet beetle larvae are small, hairy, and brown or striped, usually found on wool rugs, closet floors, and under baseboards. Bed bug larvae (nymphs) are tan, oval, and found near the bed. Carpet beetle bites are rare, bed bug bites are common. The $99 onsite inspection confirms which one you have if you are not sure.
The larvae eat natural fibres including wool, silk, fur, feathers, leather, and dried pet food. They also chew through stored grains and spices. The adult beetles feed on flower pollen outside, which is how they get inside in the first place.
Affected textiles are cleaned or heat treated, carpets and rugs are vacuumed thoroughly, and a residual is applied along baseboards, under rugs, and inside closets. Heavy infestations involve attic and wall void treatment because larvae feed on accumulated lint and dead insects up there.
Not usually. Vacuuming and dry cleaning handle most infested items. Replacement only comes up if a piece has visible larval damage too extensive to repair. We will tell you honestly if something is worth saving.
Vacuum under furniture and along baseboards monthly, store wool and fur in sealed garment bags, clean dead insect bodies from window sills and light fixtures (a common food source), and install screens on windows where adults enter. The protection plan includes an annual inspection.
